Houston Codes uses Roblox to kickstart students' interest in programming. Students work with variables, conditions, loops, functions, objects, events, and debugging, all the same basic structures used by professionals!

Every concept produces visible results inside the student's game. Instead of reducing coding to a toy, we want to let students organically explore their interest in logic and abstraction.

One idea builds into the next.

Students begin by reading and changing small programs. They conclude by synthesizing those ideas into a game that they can explain.

Roblox Programming Foundations

Ten in-person Saturday lessons for students ages 10–14. Students learn programming fundamentals in Lua and finish with an original playable Roblox project.

Who is the course for?+

The beginner course is designed for first-time programmers. Prior Roblox experience is useful but not required.

Does my student need a laptop?+

Yes. Students should bring a laptop that can run Roblox Studio and its charger. We will provide setup guidance before the first class.

Will my student be learning code or game design?+

Students first and foremost learn to write code, debug it, reason about data, and then apply those ideas to a game they design along the way.

How large are classes?+

This first Charlottesville class is limited to 10 students so all students can receive individual help.

What happens after registration?+

Stripe will send your payment receipt immediately. We will follow up by email with instructions, the cancellation policy, and exact room information.

Do your workshops really teach kids how to code?+

Yes! Our workshops use Roblox Studio, which is the software platform that developers use to make “experiences” in Roblox, in a language called Lua. We teach real programming concepts like loops, conditionals, variables, and functions. Kids learn by building games, gaining problem-solving and logical thinking skills that align with traditional programming classes.

What do I need to bring to each session?+

All you need to attend each session is a working laptop and charger, and the rest of the materials will be provided by us.

I can’t find your pricing/location information. Where is it?+

All pricing and location information is located in the specific course listing available when you go to sign up for a course, since each session may vary in price and location. Exact locations and room numbers will be sent out in a confirmation email upon registration.

Do you offer refunds?+

We can refund your course registration fee up to a week before the course start date. Additionally, in the event of a course cancellation, we will happily refund your fee.

I signed up for one session, but I realized I can’t make it. Can I change to another session?+

Yes, depending on your situation, we can most likely make arrangements for you to swap sessions. Please reach out to us via phone number! Note that if the session has already begun, it may be difficult for us to move you to another session.

Is my student is too young/old for your workshops? Can they still participate?+

Yes, our workshops are designed for all ages! The programming fundamentals we teach—like loops, conditionals, and variables—can be understood at any age. These core concepts are essential whether your child is just starting out or preparing for advanced studies. We are also preparing to offer courses for adult students in the near future. Additionally, we also offer private lessons tailored to your specific goals, such as AP Computer Science preparation. These lessons are offered at any age.

Yes, we offer private tutoring for students ready to explore advanced topics like Python, Java, or algorithms and data structures.
